Pray for Pee

The Mad Mac household had a horrible accident this weekend. An accident that has had J and I on the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. But right now we are praying for pee.

Tosha was hit by a truck and has spent the last two days in intensive care in Greenbriar Vet Center and now she is in Leesburg under the care of Dr. Bush.

She has a broken shoulder, a broken tail, her left leg has a gash, and her left side is very swollen and sore. We have been able to confirm that there is no internal bleeding and the she did not rupture her bladder, as we first thought. The worst part of this is her tail. As some of you know, all of her life her tail has gotten Tosha in trouble - be it clearing a coffee table, flicking a full cup of soda across the room, or sweeping the kitchen floor.

Where the tail meets the spine is where the nerves that control the bladder come out of the spine. (well that is the best I can explain it right now.) This means that she can not control her bladder. Where you may be thinking they make diapers for that problem you would be wrong - her bladder is bascially stuck shut - which means she can not pee.

If she can not pee in the next few days on her own - then J and I have a very tough decision to make.

If you have a moment, or can spare a thought, please say a little prayer for pee.

UPDATE:

Tosha is resting this morning and talking to the staff to let them know exactly how she feels. She is not able to get up on her own, but when she is helped up she can walk for about 15 feet on her own power. She was able to posture to pee this morning and was able to do so for about 5 seconds. THIS IS HUGE! She still nees to have her bladder expressed, but the fact that she could go a little bit on her own is such a good sign.

Thank you to all of you who had said prayers, and if you could keep them coming, J & I would greatly appreacite it.

UPDATE #2:
No new progress to really report. Tosha is resting. They have taken the IV out of her leg and she is still really lame up front.

Thank you for the continued prayers.

UPDATE #3:
Last night J, Hunter, and I went to see Tosha. Hunter was happy to see his girl, so hopefully he will calm down a little bit. Tosha definitely wants to come home. I got the lab lean and lots of kisses. We got to spend about 45 minutes with her. She was able to stand and hobble around pretty good. Dr. Bush expressed her bladder and then left us to have some private dog dog time. Tosha continued to hobble around and then miraculously swatted and pottied. It is really sad to say, but to see her cop a swat was the highlight of my day. No one form the vet clinic saw her do this so they are a bit skeptical. They are going to keep her for observations and to see if she will go for herself. When J, Hunter, and I left she definitely was not happy and they had to give her a sedative. She slept last night for the first time since she has been at Leesburg.

Thank you for all of your prayers - and please keep them coming. She is not out of the woods yet.

UPDATE #4:

SHE'S HOME!! Tosha came home last night!! She is sleeping a lot, but is able to get up by herself every once in a while. She is eating like a horse and drinking a lot. These are all good things.

I can not say enough good things about the care she has gotten from all of the vets and specialist. (Yes they have specialist for dogs - Who knew!) I will keep you posted but for now - I think the Mad Mac household needs a little down time to chill out.

Thank you all very much for all of your thoughts and prayers!
